Q. What is SCUM?

A. San Carlans Using Macintosh (SCUM) was founded in 1993 by Joe Kimble and became an official Macintosh User Group in 2002.

Q. Who belongs to SCUM?

A. SCUM members are people who are interested in growing their Macintosh computer skills and helping other people do the same.

Q. What is a typical meeting like?

A. After a short business session up front, we normally have a “topic of the month” presented by one of our members. There is also time available for anyone present to talk about new hardware or software they have added to their system. There is also a sizable portion of the meeting reserved for the answering of questions from the group about problems they have encountered. Most people leave the meeting with a number of helpful suggestions. A typical meeting lasts between 60 and 90 minutes and attracts forty to fifty people.

Q. I'm just a beginner. Will I feel out of place?

A. Not at all. We have members at all levels from beginners to fairly advanced users.

Q. How do I go about attending a meeting?

A. Nothing could be easier. Just show up at the San Carlos Adult Community Center on the first Monday of the month at 9:00 a.m. You are welcome to try some meetings before deciding whether or not to join us.

Q. That sounds great. How do I join?

A. On our Home Page and Site Index (and here) are links to a membership form. You can fill it out and then print the page and send it to the address at the top of the page.

Q. What else should I know about SCUM?

A. We have an active Digital Photography SIG that meets once a month. Typical attendance will vary from eight to twelve members. Members bring their latest pictures, problems and solutions to each session. See the home page for latest meeting dates.

Q. How much does it cost to belong to SCUM?

A. Dues are $15 for the calendar year. (Dues increase was approved by the membership at the July 11, 2005 meeting.)
